Evgeni Nabokov Hockey Rumours
Both the Capitals and the Lightning recently claimed that they are not in the market for goaltender Evgeni Nabokov. GM George McPhee of the Capitals said that they have confidence in their goaltenders Michal Neuvirth and Semyon Varlamov. They have no interest in Nabokov. The Lightning's GM, Steve Yzerman said that he can afford to wait for Dan Ellis and Mike Smith to improve. Despite their sub-par goaltending, they are still in the playoff picture.
The crux of the matter is that both GMs are worried about the upwards of $3 million per year price tag to sign Nabokov. They would rather ride out their goalies and hope one of them can get a hot hand down the stretch and into the playoffs - wishful thinking.
BREAKING NEWS: During their afternoon practice this Monday, Smith was injured when Simon Gagne rounded the net and clipped Smith's leg. The Lightning have called up goaltender Cedrick Desjardins from the AHL.
