Sergei Gonchar Trade Rumors
Trade rumors continue to surround the Ottawa Senators for the 2010-2011 NHL season. The Senators are 13th in the Eastern Conference one point behind the Maple Leafs. It was expected the team would finish ahead of the Maple Leafs. Many of the players on the Senators are underperforming and Murray says that you can expect a trade before the deadline.
Murray wants to move Sergei Gonchar. The defenceman, age 37, is struggling this season with 21 points in 50 games and he is a -17. The Senators would like to clear up some cap space - his contract has two years left at $4 million. With the stellar play of Erik Karlsson, the Senators do not need Gonchar.
The Sharks, Capitals, Rangers and Stars are interested in the offensive defenceman. Murray would like prospects and draft picks in return. Do not expect a big payment for Gonchar. Many teams are aware of his injury-plagued past and his poor performance with the Senators in 2011. It may be difficult to move him.
