Notes:  Patrick Kane signed an extension in the summer with an average annual value of $10.5 million for 8 years. Kane’s agent claims they gave Chicago a hometown discount in an effort to keep the Blackhawks together. Kane is now the NHL’s highest paid player in terms of cap hit and although he could have gotten more on the open market, his contract demands do hurt the team’s competitive edge. He sustained a knee injury last season and recovered in time for the playoffs, where he set a NHL record with nine points in a series while facing elimination.
