Video: Don Cherry Slams Russians for Disrespecting Canada
After Team Canada won its first World Championship since 2007, many Russian players disrespected Canada by heading quickly to the dressing room. It's customary for the losing team to remain on the ice for the playing of the winning team's national anthem as a gesture of good sportsmanship. Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin and Pittsburgh Penguins Evgeni Malkin were some of the few Russians who remained on the ice.
On Hockey Night in Canada Coach's Corner segment, Don Cherry went on a tirade saying the Russians have:
No class, no honour, they left the national anthem. We stood while they won, and they walked off the ice. They’ve got no class whatsoever.
