Dougie Hamilton's teammates in Boston did not like him
The Boston Bruins shocked the hockey world when they traded defenseman Dougie Hamilton to the Calgary Flames for a first-round pick and two second-rounders before day 1 of the draft. Leading up to the trade, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney offered Hamilton a 6 year contract worth $33 million and it was rejected.
Besides the money demands, there appears to be another cause for the Hamilton trade. One NHL assistant general manager said:
It was surprising. It’s obvious there’s something going on that we don’t know about. From what I’ve heard behind the scenes, his teammates don’t like him. I heard he’s a loner and sort of an uppity kid, and that his teammates don’t like him and it was unanimous.
Hamilton is not the first young star to have issues in the Bruins locker room. Tyler Seguin was also not liked by Bruins teammates and was traded to the Dallas Stars.
