Monster Trade Rumor Out of Vancouver
The Vancouver Canucks want to trade either Dan Hamhuis or Kevin Bieksa. The Canucks desperately need to shed salary because they have $66 million invested in 17 players and only $4 million left to fill out the rest of their roster.
Bieksa and Hamhuis each have a year left on a contract with a cap hit of $4.6 million. Both defensemen have a no-trade clause. The Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Philadelphia Flyers and Edmonton Oilers are interested in acquiring Kevin Bieksa or Dan Hamhuis.
General manager Jim Benning is looking for a second round pick in return and could get more for Hamhuis. Benning said:
We’ve talked to lots of GMs to get a general feel for what’s going on in the marketplace and we’re going to try and recover a second-round pick if we can.
The Vancouver Canucks also want to trade either Jacob Markstrom or Eddie Lack.
