Top RFAs at Risk of Offer Sheets
As 2015 NHL free agency approaches, the talk of offer sheets heats up. The NHL commissioner Gary Bettman projected the salary cap to be around $70 million in 2015-16. With several teams at the cap ceiling, star players are at risk of an offer sheet.
Player agent Steve Bartlett said general managers may take advantage of teams with little cap space:
The reality is the tighter the cap, the tighter teams are against the cap, it does open up more and more opportunity for a player to get an offer sheet and the team, no matter how much they would like to keep him, will not be in a position to match.
Here are the top restricted free agents at risk:
Washington Capitals, Braden Holtby
St. Louis Blues, Vladimir Tarasenko
Chicago Blackhawks, Brandon Saad
Boston Bruins, Dougie Hamilton
New York Rangers, Derek Stepan
Los Angeles Kings, Tyler Toffoli
While offer sheets are rare, you can expect teams to try and poach one or two of these high profile players. Which player should your team offer sheet?
