Kings Slava Voynov sentenced to 90 days in jail for domestic violence
Slava Voynov was suspended by the Los Angeles Kings in October of 2014 after news surfaced of his alleged domestic violence. Voynov was accused of brutally beating his wife one night after a party. The assault allegedly included him slamming her head into a flat screen tv, choking her repeatedly, and even kicking her when she lay injured on the ground.
On Thursday, the 25 year old defenseman entered a plea of no contest to a misdemeanor count of corporal injury to his spouse, Marta Varlamova. The Judge sentenced Voynov to 90 days in county jail and 3 years of probation. He must also pay fines of $700, carry out community service and complete a domestic violence course. He must serve his jail time no later than July 14 and he could potentially have his time cut in half to 45 days for good behavior. Voynov's plea may lead to a potential deportation.
