Mikael Granlund sgns 2 year extension
The Minnesota Wild have signed center Mikael Granlund to a 2 year, $6 million contract extension.
Granlund spent most of last season centering the top line with Zach Parise and Jason Pominville. He finished with 8 goals and 39 points in 68 games with the Minnesota Wild. He also had 2 goals and 6 points in 10 playoff contests. Granlund has 18 goals and 88 points in 158 career games, all with the Minnesota Wild.
This contract benefits the Wild by giving them a chance to determine if he is the number 1 center of the future. It also gives Granlund the chance to earn a big contract if he can live up to the potential of being the ninth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. This bridge deal is great for both parties involved because it is a cap and term friendly deal for the Wild. It also gives the player the chance to earn big after a couple of solid seasons. The Wild also inked Mike Reilly, Nate Prosser and Ryan Carter to contracts today.
