Calgary Flames Make No Progress in Signing Sean Monahan
Sean Monahan, at 21 years of age has already posted back to back 60+ point seasons for the Calgary Flames. Monahan an extremely important key to the organization's future success will come at a high cost, but the rising NHL star is worth it.
Monahan's three-year entry level contract expires soon, and if not resigned he will become a restricted free agent come July 1st. Neither side has gotten down to discussing the specifics of re-signing. His agent Pat Morris said:
We are not very far along, at all. There's been some chatter about the topic, but have not reached the specifics. I just don't know where they're coming from yet, other than a strong expression that they want to get Sean signed. The Flames are full of young talent along with pending RFA star Johnny Gaudreau, they aren't that far from being contenders. The main priority for the Calgary Flames within the next few weeks will be to make sure Monahan returns in a Flames jersey come September, but there are also many other improvements that could be done to make the team better, including in goal.
