NHL Rumors: Vadim Shipachyov to Canadiens Close
Canadiens are reportedly in the final stages of negotiations in signing KHL star Vadim Shipachyov, but according to Elliote Freidman he may need to play another year in the KHL.
Earlier this week reporter Yvon Pedneault of Journal de Montreal reported the Canadiens and Shipachyov were closing in on a deal.
I'm told that the negotiations relating to the transfer of (Shipachyov) are nearly completed. All signs were pointing towards a deal being done, that is until yesterday when Elliote Freidman reported Shipachyov may need to play in the KHL one more season before coming over to the NHL due to his existing contract.
SKA St. Petersburgh of the KHL seem to hold all the cards in the final decision, unless Shipachyov buys out the remainder of his contract. There is word of a snag in Vadim Shipachyov's status. He may have to fulfill another year in Russia before coming to the NHL.— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) May 24, 2016
