Video: Marleau takes out Penguins hero Rust with head shot
In the first game of the Stanley Cup final between the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins, both teams resorted to dirty hockey plays. During the beginning of the third period on Monday night, Sharks veteran Patrick Marleau took out Penguins playoff hero Bryan Rust with a head shot.
Marleau got a two minute minor penalty for an illegal check to the head on the play. Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said:
Obviously we lost him [Rust] for the rest of the period. He's day-to-day with an upper-body injury. It's a blindside hit to the head. He gets a penalty. I'm sure the league will look at it.
If Rust is injured for any length of time, it will be a huge blow to the Penguins because he was scoring big goals for his team. The NHL's Department of Player Safety looked at the play and did not issue a suspension to Marleau.
