NHL Trade Rumors: Ben Bishop to Calgary Flames
The Pittsburgh Penguins are rumored to have asked for the Calgary Flames 6th overall pick in return for goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. But the Flames are interested in another elite goaltender, Ben Bishop.
Ben Bishop is set to become an unrestricted free agent in a year and is going to demand a big raise. Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Alex Killorn, Jonathan Drouin and Victor Hedman all need new contracts this summer or next. These players will demand a raise and the Lightning can't afford to re-sign them all.
In addition, only one goalie can be protected in next year's expansion draft. And leaving 21 year old Andrei Vasilevskiy exposed in the expansion draft, is not a good plan for the future. It's likely 29 year old Bishop is traded soon while his value is high. The Lightning would want the Flames 6th overall pick in return for Ben Bishop.
