NHL Trade Rumors: Nail Yakupov to Montreal Canadiens
Edmonton Oilers Nail Yakupov has been surrounded by trade rumors since he requested a trade leading up to the February 29 NHL Trade Deadline. As time passes, it's more and more likely he'll get his wish and be moved.
Yakupov has struggled mightily for a first overall pick, and it's understandable he wants a fresh start. The 22 year old right winger is a promising young player who has yet to pan out. He is signed to a $2.5 million cap hit contract for one more season.
The Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils and Calgary Flames need to upgrade their right wing. The Canadiens have Yakupov's former linemate from his junior days in Sarnia, Alex Galchenyuk. Yakupov may be a good fit on a line with Galchenyuk.
The Canadiens currently have two 2nd round picks in this year's draft, and prospects such as Greg Pateryn and Joel Hanley. The Oilers want a prospect and a second round pick in return for Yakupov.
