George McPhee hired as general manager of Las Vegas team
Las Vegas owner Bill Foley named George McPhee the first general manager in franchise history on Wednesday. Foley said:
George McPhee is our guy. I was looking for a guy who was going to be dedicated, focused and have a take-no-prisoner attitude. Someone I could identify with, and have a symbiotic relationship with.
After a lengthy interview process with seven candidates, three candidates stood out. The three candidates went to individual two day meetings with Foley and chief advisor Murray Craven, former NHL center.
The two final candidates were McPhee, and former Arizona GM Don Maloney. McPhee, 58, last served as general manager with the Capitals from 1997 to 2014.
