NHL Rumors: Kris Russell to Boston Bruins

Defenseman Kris Russell is the most coveted free agent left on the market. The 29 year old was picked up by the Dallas Stars last season, after Russell spent three seasons with the Calgary Flames.

Drafted 67th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2005, Russell has scored 38 goals and 139 assists for 177 points in 573 regular season games. Russell is a reliable second pairing left-shot defenseman.

Comparables such as Canadiens Jeff Petry and Oilers Andrej Sekera signed contracts worth $5.5M. Russell wants at least a five year offer with a cap hit of between $5M and $5.5M. The Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens are involved in a bidding war over Kris Russell.
