NHL Trade Rumors: Fowler, Shattenkirk, Trouba to Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings have a surplus of forwards and need to acquire a top pairing, puck moving defenseman. The Wings loaded up on forwards in free agency, signing Frans Nielsen, Thomas Vanek and Steve Ott.
Ansar Khan says a trade for a defenseman at some point is inevitable for the Red Wings.
The three prime candidates are Cam Fowler of Anaheim, Kevin Shattenkirk of St. Louis and Jacob Trouba of Winnipeg.
The Ducks want a winger such as Tomas Tatar or Gustav Nyquist in return for Fowler. Shattenkirk is eligible next summer for UFA status, and therefore a risky move if he doesn't promise to re-sign with the Wings. The cost of acquiring Trouba is higher than Fowler, and he may not be worth the cost.
