NHL Trade Rumors: Dougie Hamilton to Pittsburgh Penguins
When Dougie Hamilton was traded from the Boston Bruins to the Calgary Flames at the 2015 NHL Draft, it looked like Hamilton would be a part of the Flames long term plans. But he's not fitting in as expected. He averages less than 20 minutes per game, making his $5.75 million cap hit expendable.
According to Sportsnet, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Arizona Coyotes are calling about the Flames defenseman. Nick Kypreos said:
As far as trade talks are concerned you hear Dougie Hamilton’s name out there. I don’t suggest for one second that Calgary’s shopping this guy, but there are teams inquiring. The two teams I’m hearing that are kicking tires are Arizona and Pittsburgh.
The Penguins don't have enough cap space to acquire Hamilton unless a contract is moved. The Flames possibly want Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta or top prospect Daniel Sprong in return for Hamilton. The Coyotes desperately need a right-handed defenseman, and they have the prospects necessary to make a trade with the Flames.
