NHL Trade Rumors: James van Riemdsyk for Cam Fowler
For several weeks, trade rumors have been running rampant regarding James van Riemsdyk of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's believed the Leafs are going to move van Riemsdyk before the 2017 NHL trade deadline.
Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reports:
A year ago, teams asked about James van Riemsdyk and were told he was not available. Now they’re being told, “If you’re serious, ante up.” What it comes down to is this: van Riemsdyk is an unrestricted free agent after next season, and can be extended July 1. At some point, the Maple Leafs will decide if they are going to meet his price. So that’s why I think it’s gone from “No,” to “What have you got for us?”
The Leafs are in talks with the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Cam Fowler. The Ducks need to upgrade their forwards and the Leafs need to upgrade their defensemen. A JVR for Fowler trade benefits both teams.
