NY Islanders put starting goaltender on waivers
The New York Islanders placed goaltender Jaroslav Halak on waivers on Friday. The Islanders have struggled this season currently sitting in last place in the NHL.
Halak has a 3.23 goal-against average and .904 save percentage in 21 games. He was pulled in Islanders Thursday 6-4 loss to the Minnesota Wild, allowing 4 goals on 24 shots. Thomas Greiss is clearly the better option this season with a 2.49 goal-against average and a .922 save percentage in 14 games.
The 31 year old Halak is signed to a $4.5 million cap hit contract until the end of next season. It's unclear whether a team will take a chance on claiming Halak off waivers or whether he will end up playing in the AHL.
