Connor McDavid slams the NHL
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid disagrees with the NHL's decision not to send players to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. McDavid is disappointed that Team Canada will not be able to bring NHL players.
McDavid said:
It would have been a special group, and you're just hopeful to be a part of it. It's disappointing, but that's the way it is. You want to be able to represent your country on the highest stage, and the Olympics is obviously the highest stage possible.
Sean Burke, Team Canada's general manager, said the majority of his team will be selected from Canadians playing in Europe leagues. The NHL's decision not to send its players is based on a disagreement surrounding who should pay for the costs. The NHL has sent its players to every Olympics since 1998 Nagano.
Team Canada won gold at three of the last four Olympics, including back-to-back wins in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014. What do you think, is McDavid being unfairly robbed of an opportunity to represent Canada at the Olympics?
