Alex Ovechkin makes history with back-to-back hat tricks

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored a hat trick on Saturday night against the Montreal Canadiens. In his opening game against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, he also scored a hat trick. It’s the first time a player has opened a season with back-to-back hat tricks since 1917.

The 32-year-old Ovechkin had a total of two hat tricks last season, and he only scored 33 goals all season. With 7 goals scored in two games to start the 2017-2018 season, Ovechkin is on pace to break NHL goal scoring records.
