In the first period of the New Jersey Devils game against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, Devils Brian Boyle scored his first goal since being diagnosed with cancer. The home crowd cheered loudly. It was a special moment for hockey fans everywhere no matter their allegiance.

Boyle described his emotions during an intermission interview.

The 32-year-old Boyle was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia in September. He later made his season debut on November 1. Chronic myeloid leukemia is a form of blood and bone marrow cancer, which is being treated with medication.
