NHL Trade Rumors: Canadiens Price, Weber, Pacioretty, and Galchenyuk on Fire Sale
With the Montreal Canadiens recently losing two consecutive games in a dismal way to the Arizona Coyotes and the Toronto Maple Leafs, a blockbuster trade involving Carey Price, Shea Weber, Max Pacioretty, or Ale Galchenyuk is just around the corner.
Goaltender Carey Price, who signed a $10.5M cap hit contract extension until the summer of 2026, is rumored to be on the trade block. There are accusations that the Habs organization is lying about his injury, and something else is going on with the player. Since Price is the highest paid goalie in the NHL, and is not performing well this season, it would be a difficult contract to move in a trade.
Defenseman Shea Weber, who was acquired in the shocking one-for-one trade for PK Subban, is rumored to be on the trade block. Despite Weber's hefty $7.86M cap hit contract until the summer of 2026, there are teams interested in his services.
Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty is the most frequent name to come up in the rumor mill. Pacioretty's $4.5M cap hit contract expires in the summer of 2019.
Forward Alex Galchenyuk is another name coming up frequently in the rumor mill. Galchenyuk's $4.9M cap hit contract expires in the summer of 2020.
The trading of Price, Weber, Pacioretty, or Galchenyuk will signal a rebuild phase for the Montreal Canadiens.
