Erik Karlsson Submits 10-Team No-Trade List
The Ottawa Senators have lost 11 of their last 12 games and sit seventh in the Atlantic Division. Senators general manager, Pierre Dorion, is considering desperate moves to turn around his team.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Dorion asked each of their 10 players with no-trade clauses to offer up their lists of teams they don’t want to be moved to. Superstar defenseman Erik Karlsson is one of the ten players to submit his list of teams.
Karlsson said that he’s going to sign for what he's worth on his next contract, and not take a hometown discount. PK Subban is currently the highest paid defenseman in the NHL at $9 million cap hit, and therefore, Karlsson's market value is greater than $10 million cap hit.
Karlsson needs to be re-signed before summer of 2019, and it will be difficult for the Senators to juggle his massive new contract. In the short term, it's unlikely the Senators trade Karlsson. As the trade deadline and summer approaches, the Karlsson trade rumors will pick up and we'll keep you updated where he might be moved.
