Report: 1 Day After the Draft Lottery, and A Top-3 Pick is Already On the Trade Block

It was around this time yesterday that the NHL held its draft lottery for the 2018 draft in Dallas. The Hurricanes and Canadiens moved up to the 2nd and 3rd picks respectively, and it appears that less than 24 hours later, one of these teams is already open to trading their pick.

Arpon Basu, the editor-in-chief of "The Athletic" tweeted today that Marc Bergevin would indeed be willing to trade the 3rd overall pick in this draft, assuming they got an excellent return.

Unless this piece is a young elite center who's able to make the jump to the NHL now, I don't see why Bergevin would make this deal. Projected #2, 3, and 4 picks Zadina, Tkachuk and Svechnikov (in no particular order) are all excellent young forwards which would a team starved for offense another weapon to use up front. Furthermore, acquiring an older player (which seems to fit his M-O) would also go against Bergevin's comments about this off-season, where he said "The team needs to get younger, faster with character."
