The Colorado Avalanche have acquired G Philipp Grubauer and D Brooks Orpik in exchange for the 47th overall pick.

This frees up a ton of cap space for Washington to sign John Carlson if they choose to do so. Colorado now has a future successor to Semyon Varlamov.
