With the NHL draft coming up this Friday and free agency right around the corner, John Tavares
is set to hit the market as one of the most desired free agents of all time.
With all the speculation going around, TSN’s Bob McKenzie brought up the possibility
of the Toronto Maple Leafs going after Tavares.
The
Mississauga native and former number 1 overall pick in 2009 scored 84 points this
season, banking in 37 goals. The 27-year-old, who
just finished the last year of his six-season contract with an AAV of 5.5 million
dollars, is looking at possibly signing one of the highest paid contracts in
the NHL this July. The question is, where will he sign?
John Tavares Scores Short-Handed Goal on a Breakaway
Bob
McKenzie tweeted on June 18th that Toronto placed a fresh sheet of ice
down at the Air Canada Center last week. McKenzie also added that the Leafs are
believed to be making a promotional video featuring current stars of the team in hopes of
enticing the Tavares.
Many
experts are saying that Tavares could sign a seven-year contract for around nine
million dollars a year. This possible signing would be a blockbuster and would
rocket the Maple Leafs into a Stanley Cup favorite for the upcoming season.
