Gotta See It: Humboldt Broncos paralyzed survivor Ryan Straschnitzki returns to ice
Three and a half months after being paralyzed from the chest down as a result of the bus crash that took the lives of 16 members of the Humboldt Broncos, Ryan Straschnitzki returned to the ice for the first time to play sledge hockey.
Day 1 of try outs. First time on ice since April 5. BIGGEST SMILE momma and I have ever seen. Thanks Chris Cederstrand and Okotoks Rink for this. Yes Corban Knight (Flyers) and Erika and I were out there also. It is NOT easy. pic.twitter.com/NXOyFqc6kf

Ryan practiced for the first time with Team Canada's Chris Cederstrand. Ryan's goal is to make the Canadian Paralympic sledge hockey team, according to the Calgary Herald. Regardless of whether Ryan makes the Canadian Paralympic sledge hockey team, he’s committed to staying involved in the sport he loves. Ryan told the CBC:
I just want to get back on the ice, whether it’s sledge hockey or coaching or scouting…. I just love being on the ice, so anyway I can do that is awesome.
Ryan returned to his home in Calgary after spending several weeks receiving specialized spinal treatment at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia. Great to see you back on the ice, you are an inspiration, Ryan!
