NHL Trade Rumors: Milan Lucic for David Backes
Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney was seen in press row at Rogers Place, taking in a game between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. It’s my belief that Sweeney was scouting former Bruins left-winger Milan Lucic, who had previous success with the organization.
In his latest 31 Thoughts column for Sportsnet, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reveals that while seeking a new start, Lucic requested a trade from Oilers management this past offseason. Lucic has continued to struggle this season with only one goal and six assists in 31 games played. The 30-year-old could use a change of scenery to spark his scoring.
It's my belief that a trade with the Boston Bruins is in the works - Milan Lucic for David Backes. Both players are signed to a $6 M AAV contract, and Backes has two years less remaining on his contract. The 34-year-old Backes has had success under Oilers new coach, Ken Hitchcock, in St. Louis.
