Curtis McElhinney Gets It Done In Long Island
It's no surprise to anyone who has been watching the Hurricanes in this year's postseason that goaltender Petr Mrazek has been on absolute fire. But after an undisclosed injury that occurred during Game 2 versus the Isles only six minutes into the second period. This meant Carolina had to pull a cold Curtis McElhinney off the bench in hopes he could get the job done for the team.
Only thing is, McElhinney has only played in two previous playoff games not winning a single one. He did have himself an incredible season after coming over from the Maple Leafs posting a 20-11-2 record in 33 games with a 2.58 goals against average with a .912 save percentage. But everyone knows the playoffs are much tougher than the regular season so the pressure was definitely on. However, he did get some help from his goal posts several times along with teammates Warren Foegele and Nino Niederreiter who scored the teams important two goals.
Now the only question is, can he keep up his solid play until Mrazek is healthy? and even when Petr comes back, will Curtis be taking over? or will he lose his job? only time will tell.
Here's an example below of just how much the posts are proving they are a goalie's best friend.
