If Connor McDavid gets traded, here are 3 potential destinations
As the rumors were flying this week that Connor McDavid wants out of Edmonton, the wheels began to spin on what the framework of the trade would look like. From McDavid's interviews this week, it was obvious he's pissed off with how things have turned out in Edmonton, so there is certainly potential for a deal to take place.
Here are three deals that may be discussed immediately after the playoffs conclude:
- Oilers trade Connor McDavid to the Detroit Red Wings for Joe Hicketts, Anthony Mantha, Andreas Athanasiou, Michael Rasmussen and Filip Zadina. Detroit would be mailing in their prospect cupboard while Dylan Larkin and McDavid would be a legit 1-2 down the middle. They would need to move some money out first in the likes of Jimmy Howard or Trevor Daley. The Oilers would walk away with a slew of young talent leaking of potential. If you can't sell wins, sell hope.
- Oilers trade Connor McDavid to the Buffalo Sabres for Casey Mittelstadt, Sam Reinhart, Alex Nylander, Rasmus Ristolainen and a first-round pick. The trade gives the Sabres Eichel, McDavid and Dahlin to build around, it gives the Oilers depth up front for Leon, and a pillar for their back end. When you are trading a MEGA star, the more players you get back the better, Helps with taking off the pressure for the players. Nobody ever wants to be the guy traded for McDavid or Gretzky.
- Oilers trade Connor McDavid to the Montreal Canadiens for Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Jonathan Drouin, Phillip Danault, Noah Juulsen and a first rounder. Nick Suzuki could make his way into this deal as well. The Habs may have to move Petry's contract to be comfortable with the money, but when you have a chance to trade for the best player in the league, you do whatever it takes. The Oilers would make away with some serious talent to replenish their team.
One thing is for sure, the Oilers are going to be receiving 1000 calls this offseason to check the heat in the office.
