NHL Trade Rumor: Rasmus Ristolainen to Toronto
According to WGR 550 Paul Hamilton, the Buffalo Sabres are in talks with the Toronto Maple Leafs regarding a potential trade that would send the defenceman to the Leafs.
Hamilton was extremely vague on his claims. Earlier this year, it was stated that Toronto tried to acquire Ristolainen at the deadline but was ultimately turned down, the assets in play were not determined by insiders.
Speculating that Gardiner doesn't re-sign with the organization and with Toronto's blue line troubles, Toronto would be willing to give up some forwards to acquire Ristolainen. Hamilton added that if Marner signs for the expected $10 million, the Leafs won't be able to re-sign RFAs Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson and they will ultimately become expendable.
Ristolainen is under contract until 2022 with a cap hit of $5.4 million. Do you see the Leafs acquiring the defenceman during the off-season?
