According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, there are currently 4 teams, including San Jose, that are the front-runners in signing Erik Karlsson this off-season.

According to Friedman, the Vancouver Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks and the New York Rangers are all the front-runners in trying to sign Karlsson this off-season. In his latest 31 thoughts column, Friedman states that Karlsson's health with be the prime thought before any organization offers him a contract.

After his latest injury, if Karlsson will need surgery, that may push franchises away from signing the elite defenceman and could push Karlsson away from signing a big contract.
