Rumor: New York Islanders lose their captain for second year in a row
The New York Islanders could lose their captain for the second year in a row. Anders Lee said he will be talking to other teams as 2019 NHL free agency approaches.
I didn’t think we’d get to this point. The process hasn’t … I haven’t enjoyed it, but it is what it is. We want to make sure that everything is done right and it’s right for both of us, for both sides. I hope it works out. They’re working on it right now.
According to Arthur Staple, Lee has not re-signed with the Islanders because he is demanding a seven or eight year term. The Islanders only want to give him a five year contract. A six year contract with a $7 million annual average value makes sense for both sides since it would keep him under contract until 34 years old.
