Report: Brendan Shanahan didn't approve latest Marner extension
According to Satiar Shah from Sportsnet, the Maple Leafs and Mitch Marner were recently close to an extension and Leafs President Brendan Shanahan didn't approve the specifics.
Leafs GM, Kyle Dubas would prefer to sign Marner for as long as possible. While Marner's agent, Darren Ferris wants to make sure Marner is compensated as close to the maximum of his potential as possible.
These contract talks could last all summer, buckle up Leafs Nation.
No word yet on what the final AAV would have looked like but the constant chatter is Marner is looking for Auston Matthews type of money which sits over $11.6 million. Have to wonder if the term of the deal is what the Leafs President wasn't happy about.Talking with @DhaliwalSports today, a source told him the Leafs and Marner we’re close to a deal 2 weeks ago but Brendan Shanahan didn’t approve it. Lots of rumours circling around RFA’s these days— Satiar Shah (@SatiarShah) July 18, 2019
