Rumor: Mitch Marner to sign 3 year deal with the Maple Leafs
The most talked about restricted free agent in the history of the NHL, could finally be signing on the dotted line as Mitch Marner and the Maple Leafs appear close to the finish line.
Darren Dreger of TSN has mentioned the Maple Leafs and Mitch Marner's camp appear headed for a 3 year deal with $9.5 million salary to start in year one, and increasing from there.
This would mean Marner would be an unrestricted free agent once this contract concludes, and gives him a 2 year jump on Auston Matthews next contract, which if you ask Mitch Marner's camp, everything has everything to do with Auston Matthews.
Marner has led the Maple Leafs in scoring the past couple of seasons and with John Tavares locked up as Marner's pivot, Marner can continue to find himself near the top of league scoring. The Maple Leafs have opened up "informal" training camp and 22 players have showed up for the skates. Marner of course was not one of them.
GM, Kyle Dubas has made it loud and clear during his media rounds the past 48 hours, he would like Mitch to be in training camp for day one, and with this recent development, it appears that will be the case.
At this point is 3 years at roughly $9.5 million a fair deal for both sides?
