NHLTR: Blackhawks want to trade Brent Seabrook; 3 potential destinations
The Chicago Blackhawks find themselves in a tough spot, both financially and with the flexibility of their roster, and it appears the first domino to fall will be expensive defenseman, Brent Seabrook.
The team has informed the long time veteran, they are in the midst of feeling out the interest level for him on the current market, and are willing to retain some salary in any move. The more salary they retain of Seabrook's, the more valuable the trade chip is coming back to Chicago in any deal.
Seabrook, who makes $6,875,000 for the next 4 seasons, holds a full no-move clause, will have the final say on where he ends up. Unless, of course, the Blackhawks wait and buy him out at season's end which is a trending discussion.
If the Hawks are willing to eat salary from his deal over the course of the next 4 seasons, expect some teams to have luke-warm interest. These teams include the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings and the Winnipeg Jets. It is believed Seabrook would prefer to play in Vancouver.
Seabrook has only been a healthy scratch twice in his career, so this is new territory for the veteran defenceman and it appears it may not be the only new territory he needs to get used to.
