NHLTR: Rangers and Oilers are in the middle of trade negotiations
According to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers have been in contact to discuss a deal which appears to be centered around disgruntled forward, Jesse Puljujarvi.
Oilers GM, Ken Holland has made his way overseas to watch Puljujarvi up close, in an international tournament to essentially get a sense of what his asset is bringing to the table right now, so he can better evaluate the proper return.
Puljujarvi's agent was recently asked if there was any chance they could mend the relationship in Edmonton and come back to the NHL as an Oiler, which his agent responded, no chance.
The Rangers are reluctant to give up the world for Puljujarvi, but the sense is the Oilers are interested in RHD's Adam Fox and Anthony Deangelo or forward Lias Andersson. The deal could turn out to be more than just a one for one.
Hockey insider Elliotte Friedman recently mentioned on his podcast, some executives feel if Puljujarvi continues to shine overseas, the Oilers may be able to get a first-round pick for him closer to the new year.
The price will be determined by Ken Holland and the Oilers management, for now they cross their fingers that Puljujarvi continues to put up points.
