Rumor: Maple Leafs send offer to St Louis for Alex Pietrangelo
The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the road in St Louis to face the Blues on Saturday night, and according to a source connected to the Blues, the Leafs have contacted them on multiple occasions asking about defenceman, Alex Pietrangelo.
Earlier this week, the Athletic's James Mirtle mentioned he felt the Leafs will pursue the Blues captain, in the summer, but there could be a deal to be made if the Blues feel their Captain won't be signing an extension.
Chatter surrounded the Blues that 'Pietro' was not happy when the team acquired Justin Faulk and signed him to an extension immediately, meanwhile, the team hadn't made any legit offers to him.
The Leafs are willing to include William Nylander in the deal, if the team allows the Leafs to work on a contract extension during the trade negotiations. If no extension talks are included in the trade, the Leafs prefer to include Kasperi Kapanen, in case 'Pietro' walks after this season. The deal also included defensive top-end prospect Timothy Liljegren and a 2nd round pick .
Pietrangelo currently holds a no trade clause but the feeling is Toronto is a no-brainer for the King City, Ontario native.
Hard to see the Blues trade their Stanley Cup winning Captain, however, the team is not interested having him leave this offseason for nothing, so a trade may be their only option.
