San Jose fires head coach, Peter DeBoer, 3 others
According to Elliotte Friedman, the San Jose Sharks have made a hockey decision, and have fired head coach, Peter DeBoer, along with assistants Steve Spott, Dave Barr, and goaltending coach, Johan Hedberg.
The Sharks have been waiting to hit their stride after a rough start to the season, and instead, they have lost five in a row. The team sits sixth in the Pacific Division with a 15-16-2 record.
DeBoer was in the middle of his fifth season behind the bench in the Shark Tank. The team made the playoffs on four occasions and saw the Cup final in '16, to go on and lose to Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. DeBoer has the remaining of his $3 million salary this season and is under contract for next season at $3 million.
Look for Mike Babcock's name to come up as a possible replacement in San Jose on a long term basis. For now, the lone assistant, Bob Boughner takes over.
