Breaking: Vegas Fires Head Coach Gerard Gallant
The Vegas Golden Knights have announced today that they have fired Head Coach Gerard Gallant and Assistant Mike Kelly after a loss last night to the Buffalo Sabres 4-2. GM Kelly McCrimmon said in a statement that "In order for our team to reach its full potential we determined that a coaching change was necessary. Our team is capable of more than it has shown this season."
The Golden Knights wasted no time in naming a replacement, the team named recently fired ex-San Jose coach Pete DeBoer as the second Head Coach in Vegas Golden knights history. The Golden Knights are tied for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Gerard Gallant won the Jack Adams Award for coach of the year in 2017-2018. Gallant took the Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2018 in the inaugural season of the franchise. He made the playoffs again last year, but lost in the first round. Oddly enough Gallant has never made it past 3 seasons in any of his previous Head Coaching spots (Columbus and Florida) He probably won't be out of work for long with the coaching carousal that the NHL has become.
Who will Gallant coach next?
