Calgary Flames to be busy leading to trade deadline
The Calgary Flames have nearly $4 million in cap space, thanks to trading away forward Michael Frolik to Buffalo earlier this week. The question is how will Flames GM Brad Treliving use the cap space at the deadline?
It is known league wide that Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving wants to add some scoring to his top 6. Flamesnation Ryan Pike noted some interesting trade possibilities this week. Here are 3 possible scenarios.
- Kasperi Kapanen (TOR) to Calgary for TJ Brodie. Kapanen is signed for 2 more years at a $3.2 million cap hit. Brodie is UFA end of the year.
- Kyle Palmieri (NJ) $4.65 million cap hit, Brodie a possibility, or picks/prospects if New Jersey retains salary.
- Rickard Rakell (ANH) $3.789 million with a few years left. Price would be steep for the Flames, with Anaheim being in the same division. Anaheim would most likely want the Flames 1st rounder this year, plus a decent prospect from Calgary.
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet has reported numerous times "big changes" will be made in Calgary if the Flames fail to make the playoffs or do not advance past the first round. The heat is on in southern Alberta.
