Media Slams "Unwatchable" NHL All-Star Game
Hockey may be a sport, but for most of us, it was our first love. Many of us were still in diapers cheering for a team, while others have found themselves attracted to the game later in life. The NHL All-Star Game has been designed to showcase our game's talent and inspire young and impressionable fans. However, there has been growing concern over the NHL All-Star game's level of entertainment and interaction, but the hockey media community has finally had enough. Some of their comments are absolutely brutal.
The NHL Skills Competition has always been a highlight of the weekend as one player will wear the crown for an entire year for their particular event. This year seemed hopeful when the league announced it would showcase the games' female talent in a Canada vs USA rivalry. However, after the weekend was over, many big names in the hockey community expressed their displeasure with the NHL All-Star weekend.
I love hockey. This is not hockey. I wish the NHL could figure out a better way to showcase the sport because this no-hit, no-try exhibition isn't it.— Helene Elliott (@helenenothelen) January 26, 2020
In just over three minutes, the first game of the All-Star Game has already produced more goals than the women's game last night. I'd rather watch the women play than this gong show.— Ken Campbell (@THNKenCampbell) January 26, 2020
All-Star weekend is always really fun. There's a great energy to it, all the events and the Fan Fair are great for hometown fans and fans who make the trip, the skills comp is good fun... then the actual All-Star Game starts and it's death. I don't know what the solution is.— Mark Lazerus (@MarkLazerus) January 26, 2020
It seems that the producers of the All-Star weekend have done a phenomenal job with the level of entertainment and fan interaction at the event itself. But, the game is played by a bunch of guys who are playing with 50% effort. It's clear they would rather be in The Bahamas kickin' it than be at this event. What can the NHL do to make positive changes? Conversely, should the NHL All-Star game be phased out?
