Rumor: Coyotes To Land Big Name Defenseman
The Arizona Coyotes have far exceeded the expectations of both analysts and fans alike. They are currently 11th place in the league with a 23-16-4 record. However, they are in great need of a sizable defenseman, particularly with playoff experience. It appears they have their eyes set on a specific player.
Detroit Red Wings’ defenseman Mike Green is a big name on the market. He is certainly not the player he used to be, but this is a low risk trade as his $5.375 million contract is set to expire on July 1st 2020. The Coyotes currently have $5.72 million in cap space, which is enough to keep Green in their lineup after Darcy Kuemper returns from injury.
“Mike Green seems like he’d be a perfect fit in Arizona, who field a relatively young group of defenders” - Bob Heyrman of “Detroit Jock City”
The Coyotes have the 5th least amount of goals against (110) but they also have the 10th most shots against per game (32.1). This is a sign of fantastic goaltending and further demonstrates their need for an upgrade on defence.
More to come.
