Rumor: Jack Eichel Could Be Traded
Jack Eichel was drafted 2nd overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and he has been a dominant force since that time. He tallied 82 points last season and he is having a Hart Trophy calibre season this year. The Buffalo Sabres have not qualified for the post season since the 2010-2011 season, and the frustration seems to be taking its toll on the young talent.
Eichel has seen his team's roster change for better and for worse. Some talents such as Ryan O'Reilly have departed from the team, which is obviously counterproductive to the organization's success. Now, Eichel has not formally inquired about or demanded a trade, but there are rumors that Eichel does not want to spend his prime years playing for a deadpan organization.
"Players credited Ralph Krueger with changing the attitude around the team, and Jack Eichel's having a Hart Trophy calibre season. But they're 10 points out as we wake up on Wednesday and there are no easy answers. The disappointment is not going unnoticed." Elliotte Friedman's 31 Thoughts BlogEichel is in his 2nd year of an 8 year contract with an annual cap hit of $10 million. He has a no move clause in his contract but it can not be enacted until the 2022 season. If Eichel were to be traded, what could the Sabres expect in return? Which team would be the frontrunner?
