Rumor: New York and San Jose working on goalie trade
The New York Rangers have started the new year by recalling their top goalie prospect, Igor Shesterkin from the Hartford Wolfpack, and this is turn has sparked the conversation that there is no doubt goalie, Alexander Georgiev is on his way out.
We've reported the Rangers and Leafs have held conversations regarding the tendy, however, with the recent strong play of Michael Hutchinson, the Leafs aren't actively looking for a back up. This leaves the Rangers in limbo, but it appears the San Jose Sharks have made it known they are open to take Georgiev off of the Rangers' hands.
The 23-year-old netminder is enjoying a steady season, posting a 3.17 gaa and a 909 save% in 20 games this season. Georgiev is a RFA at season's end, and believe is the Rangers are not interested in buying out Henrik Lundqvist from his remaining $8.5million salary for next season, meaning Georgiev is to be dealt.
The Sharks have struggled this year, and more specifically in net, where Martin Jones and Aaron Dell have been underwhelming. Look for a deal to get done and include a forward prospect and draft pick heading to the Big Apple.
More to come.
