Blockbuster Rumor: Habs and Avs working on Carey Price mega-deal
The Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche have quite the history when it comes to blockbuster deals and 2020 could bring us the biggest one yet.
Tampa Bay and Colorado are playing tonight and Habs executives Scott Mellanby and Marc Bergevin are attending the game, and some believe it's because they could be working on a blockbuster.
Seeing Marc Bergevin is in Denver got me thinking about potential MTL / COL trade ideas. This would be a biggie but— Mike Kelly (@MikeKellyNHL) February 17, 2020
the more I think about it, the more I can see a Carey Price to Colorado trade making a lot of sense. Obviously, Price has no move & would have to sign off but...
The Avs have the money for Price and it feels like he would waive his no-trade clause to join forces with one of the best young teams in the league. If the deal goes through expect to hear names like Samuel Girard, J.T Compher, Tyson Jost, and a combination of top prospects including Shane Bowers, Bowen Byram, and Connor Timmins.Colorado with Carey Price in goal would be something and Montreal could shift its direction and free up some money while getting younger. Anyways, blockbuster trades are good and this would be one!— Mike Kelly (@MikeKellyNHL) February 17, 2020
It would take quite the haul for the Habs to be able to sell this to their fan base. No word yet if Patrick Roy has reached out to Carey Price about Colorado, but if this deal goes through, the connection will live on forever.
