Coronavirus Causing Havoc In The NHL
The coronavirus has already impacted tens of thousands of individuals and has caused great concern in China and beyond. It is estimated that 75% of sticks used in the NHL are manufactured in China. Since the work stoppage in China has taken place to prevent the spreading of the virus, it has been difficult for the league to reorder stock, which is problematic at best.
During this weekend's broadcast of the Detroit Red Wings and Buffalo Sabres, NBC Sports' Pierre Maguire stated that equipment managers have told him there was a "major shortage of sticks".
Brands such as Bauer and CCM manufacture their sticks in China, which accounts for 75% of the total market share within the NHL. However, companies such as Warrior have not been impacted by the coronavirus as their products are manufactured in Mexico.
Here is what Boston Bruins' Charlie Coyle (CCM User) had to say
"I've been kinda looking for some, and I think they're kinda slowed up for a bit for obvious - for a good reason. So I am trying to make do... trying not to break too many right now."
