Details on failed Tyson Barrie trade to Vancouver

As the dust settles after the NHL trade deadline, details of numerous failed trades have emerged. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has reported that the Vancouver Canucks made a failed attempt at landing Toronto Maple Leafs defender Tyson Barrie.

Friedman has reported the proposed trade with Toronto and Vancouver would have been centered around Canucks pending RFA defenseman Troy Stecher. The deal reportedly fell through when Toronto GM Kyle Dubas wanted a pick or prospect thrown in. Vancouver GM Jim Benning was not willing to go that route, and will most likely pursue Barrie in the summer when Barrie is a UFA.

The Maple Leafs may regret not making the deal with Vancouver, all indications around the league are that Tyson Barrie will not re-sign in Toronto after this season. Did Kyle Dubas make a mistake?
